Some recipes are more than just ingredients and steps. They’re little pieces of family history. This strawberry jam has been bubbling away in our kitchen for as long as we can remember. Passed around every summer when strawberries are at their sweetest, it’s one of those traditions that just feels like home. It’s rich, velvety, and infused with vanilla and red wine for a depth of flavour that makes every spoonful taste like something special.
We’ve made it for weekend breakfasts, to gift to friends, and to spread on scones during long, slow afternoons. Now, we’re finally passing it on to you, from our kitchen to yours.
Recipe: Strawberry Jam (makes 4 large jars)
Ingredients
1 kg strawberries
2 vanilla bean strips
½ bottle sweet red wine
1 kg caster sugar
30 mL lemon juice
Method
Wash strawberries, remove leaves, and cut in half.
Place all ingredients in a large saucepan.
Bring to a gentle boil while stirring, then reduce heat and simmer for 8 hours.
Sterilise 4 jars while the jam thickens.
Once the consistency is thick and glossy, pour into jars and seal with lids.
